Marionette typeface

Marionette is an angular typeface inspired by a handful of glyphs W.A. Dwiggins sketched in 1937 to illustrate his ‘M-formula’ technique of type design for small sizes. The M in ‘M-formula’ stands for ‘marionette’, since Dwiggins also applied the method in his puppet-making.

Marionette adds a good amount of flavor to body text without completely sacrificing readability. The large x-height and exaggerated details keep things readable when used small (I especially like it in dense settings with very tight line-spacing). Or use it big to to let the unusual graphic qualities stand out.
