Silvana typeface exhibition

Traditionally, typefaces have been made accessible and desirable to their users via printed type specimens, often in book-like catalogs from type foundries. The specimen tradition has lived on as nicely crafted handouts, downloadable pdfs and in online image galleries. The Silvana specimen exhibition instead explores how a typeface can be experienced spatially and in dialogue with its surrounding architecture. The installation was realized using the Flow Modular system from the Berlin based creative studio Paleworks. The concept for the modules is born out of an interest in combining art and crafts, and draws inspiration from the ideology and aesthetics of the 1948 Struc-Tube exhibition system by George Nelson, as well as the Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer. Altogether, the exhibition becomes a contemporary meeting between different craftsmanship traditions from applied arts, all framed by the legendary Buchstabenmuseum.
