Pride was started by trans women of color in NY 51 years ago. This year, corporate pride was canceled and Pride went back to its roots with marches and protests throughout the month supporting the lives of the most marginalized of our LGBTQIA+ community — BIPOC & specifically Black Trans people.
Pride has always been an outlet for our community to drop any societal pressures and own our true selves. Many pride parties went virtual this year allowing access to Queer people from all over the world. Simultaneously the need for a safe online space throughout these isolated times was more important than ever. These backgrounds aimed to transport the users out of their homes while celebrating our community and showing that we are together even when isolated and alone.
