Cielo Vertical Arts

Cielo Vertical Arts is a dance company that choreographs works in which performers are suspended above the ground, dancing with gravity. I was asked to create an identity for the company that conveyed the movement and drama of their work. To begin the process, I asked the question: “How can I develop a kinetic typographic form that expresses the verve and drama of a Cielo performance, in which the letters become dancers?,” and started developing the concept. While visiting the Museum of Modern Art, I noticed an Alexander Calder mobile, which sparked an idea: what if the wordmark was on a mobile, spinning and twisting in space!
